“Film Stills from Westerns” opens tonight!
Over the last two weeks, Sydney College of Arts’ Masters canditate has been in residence developing a new a web-based project designed to discover and examine the visual patterns that occur within the repetitious themes and imagery of ‘The Western’ film genre.
This ongoing project hopes to develop an extensive visual database of film stills, illustrating how the repetition of cinematic images serves to generate a visual mythology - which in the case of The Western ultimately blurs the line between truth and fiction.
